Module2- Character Preformance and Believibility- 6 Week Group project (Part 3 of 3)

My Role: Create and animate armature, story board, anamatic.
Extended contributions: Editing, floor plan, character moodboard, labratory moodboard, Props- (table, goggles, welding gun, electric glass cylinders, walls, big power machine, lever, TV)

Floor Plan

The floor plan above shows where all the props are places on the set. it is measured exatly so the door opening wwill not hit the glass cylinder when it opens and the character has enought space to move about infront of his desk.

Prop Design ideas and references

-Goggles

The origional goggles were going to be planned better as shown above but due to some people not pulling thier weight i had to improvise last minute with a 2 nuts a piece of felt tipped wood and a piece of black paper for the strap. it works well in the animation so im not complaining.

-Welding Gun
I constructed this by using some old bits out of my grandparents tool box sticking as closely to a welding gun shape as possible.

-Lever

at first we put a pencil to act as the lever handle but replaced it with a nail because we were thinking of making the scene whrn he pulls the handle  live action but decided it would clash against the jerkyness of the rest of the animation if we did that.

-TV

-Power Machine

This shows the Before and after shot of the extra electrical wires and components i stuck on to the power box to make it look more like a generator, i was trying to make a simplyfied version of the generator above.

-Walls

The walls were repainted a few times, they went from blue to brown to dark purple but then a scraped the paint away to make them look old. i wanted them to look as if they used to be another colour when they were clean. i was thinking of 'Dexters Labratory' and what his walls would look like if he hadnt cleane them. the dark purple makes the character and any lighting effects stand out aswell.

-Table

I was influenced mainly buy 'Dexters Labratory' again  because he has a simple work top streaching accross the fron t of the screen and i thought, a prefect way to discuise his walk and we could also use it to show off a few of his old inventions that have been dumped there. decided to spray paint it silver to give it a metalic look and later added some hinges to emphasize that its been constructed from sheets of metal. this table also came in handy to hide our arms when we had to reach in and animate without the camera spotting the cheating method.

-Electric Cylinder

The cylinders was made using trial and error, i saw all the images of these  perfectly domed shapes and it soon occured to me that the only way i could achieve that shape well was with an 'oasis bottle' i put bulbs inside the bottle so it would make sence that it lights up. i feel the black wire i wrapped around the bottles disguises them well. i also constructed small platforms for the cylinders to stand on out of block of wood and a tile each. using wardrobe lights with some orange filter paper stuck on i was able to make the bottles appear to light up at random times during the animation.
